Omnissa downplays VMware past in official launch – Computerworld

“I imagine that over the next 20 days, in the run-up to their conference, we will begin to get a sense of their partner program and pricing models. These are certainly issues that are on the minds of VMware’s long-time customers. And the goodwill that Omnissa hopes to retain will depend greatly on how they respond to these questions.”

As for positioning, Annand said, “This is a great time for them, and it makes a lot of sense for them to act quickly. Citrix recently had to go back to the source to raise some more cash and is aggressively ‘sizing’ its customer base – that is, focusing on strategic ones at the expense of non-strategic ones. And as Microsoft continues to reimagine what a fully cloud-native desktop experience could look like, enterprises need solutions that work with existing software and devices today and not just in the future.”

Annand added that the need for desktop and application virtualization, as well as end-user device management, “has by no means gone away. Zero trust and security requirements across all the different form factors, manufacturers and operating systems we put in front of workers these days have exponentially increased the operational complexity of enterprise IT.”
