'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds': Pike and crew go full Vulcan in first clip from Season 3 (video)

Along with a first preview of “2025”Star Trek“streaming movie”Article 31“More new material was revealed at Paramount's big San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend in the form of a five-minute look at”Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 3.

Although “Strange new worlds“Likely not to appear again until next year, this heartwarming clip features a hilarious scene in which Pike (sporting an epic vulcanized hairdo) and his crewmates pose as pure Vulcans for an emergency mission and are each injected with a revised Kerjovian serum that alters their physiology into that of emotionless members of the noble Vulcan race.

Pike (Anson Mount), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), La'an (Christina Chong) and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) receive the personalized vaccine and quickly transform from human to fully logical Vulcan, while Chief Engineer Pelia (Carol Kane) is upset that her transformation was unsuccessful. Spock (Ethan Peck) is immediately alarmed to be the butt of their annoying, newfound intellectual superiority and to be constantly reminded that he's only half-Vulcan.

Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Rebecca Romijn (Number One) and Martin Quinn (Montgomery Scott) watch with amusement as the four Vulcan officers adjust to their newfound mental prowess. We won't give away exactly what happens as the sequence progresses, but it shows the cast's smile-inducing chemistry, excellent performances and, as the old saying goes, “What could possibly go wrong?”

Walking in slow motion down the Enterprise's hallway, everyone decked out in their Vulcan finery, with Pike leading his group with a poker face and confidently twirling his Vulcan Lirpa weapon, is truly a sight to behold. It perfectly exemplifies the ambitious series' tonal balancing act, and we're very impressed by how showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers continue to churn out episodic gems season after season while still navigating traditional “Trek” territory.
