The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X Zen 5 CPU is up to 12% faster than the Intel 14900KS at unlimited power settings

A new leak shows an unofficial sample of the Ryzen 9 9950X. While AMD has partially released some architectural details, it still restricts reviewers and testers from publishing their results. However, AnandTech forum user “Igor_Kavinski”, which is not bound by these confidentiality agreements, continues to share its findings based on testing of an engineering sample.

Previously, this user shared an overview of the Ryzen 9 9950X’s performance in Blender using different power profiles. Since AMD highlighted the 9950X’s overclocking capabilities during Zen5 Tech Day, this might have prompted Igor to retest his sample with the same benchmark. Cinebench remains a favorite benchmark among CPU manufacturers and enthusiasts due to its ease of use and free availability.

Igor tested his engineering sample across 10 different power profiles (PPT – Package Power Tracking), ranging from 40W all the way up to what appears to be unlimited power. The unlimited setting allowed the CPU to reach 309W. While this may seem high, it’s worth noting that the Core i9-14900KS’s Extreme Power Profile sets PL1 and PL2 to 320W, meaning Igor’s sample still draws less power.

The Unlimited Power profile allowed the clock speed to peak at 5.5GHz, 100MHz higher than the 253W PPT configuration. The Ryzen 9 9950X scored 48,011 points in the Cinebench R23 multi-core test, outperforming the Core i9-14900KS by 12.49% in the Extreme profile and 16.3% in the Performance profile.
