For example, graduates of tech bootcamps, including coding bootcamps, report quickly finding full-time jobs, a quick return on their educational investment, higher salaries, and better career opportunities in STEM.
Fiona Mark, principal analyst at Forrester Research, said that while she has seen organizations move away from requiring college degrees, there is continued interest in certifications, particularly in the areas of security and cloud. Skills in AI and data — data science, analytics, data management — are showing growth in demand, she said, as are skills in cloud and the infrastructure needed to support AI environments.
According to Mark, demand for developers has declined from its 2020-2021 highs, but organizations still need developers to support digital initiatives and improve customer experience. “What has changed in the market is not just the skill set, but the experience in using that skill set. Years of experience are often used as an indicator of skill proficiency, and demand for less experienced workers has declined from 40% of tech roles in 2021 to about a quarter of tech roles in 2023,” he said.
