A new bundle on Humble Bundle blew me away with the great value on display for as little as $10: Humble Detectives Pack It's a cornucopia of delightful detective, mystery, and murder mystery games from recent years.
The package consists of the cinematic-centered mystery Immortality, the serial killer thriller Killer Frequency, a fantastical world of dark secrets in Paradise Killer, cosmic horror in Call of Cthulhu, a double dose of pixel gags in The Darkside Detective and its sequel A Fumble in the Dark, and a whodunit in which you did it yourself in Overboard.
Ten dollars is a pretty compelling price for many of them, frankly.
Immortality gained A rare review from 95% of PC Gamer When it was released in 2022, critic Kaile Hultner called the found-footage collage that makes up actress Marissa Marcel's mystery “Sam Barlow's best and most evocative romp yet, and a spectacular debut for Half Mermaid.”
The very different Paradise Killer got a 91% rating for its perfect, neon-drenched world where things actually go quite wrong. Critic Funké Joseph said it was “a new standard for the crime genre” that featured “some vaporwave hits.”
The Dark Side Detective, on the other hand, was named after writer Samuel Roberts As a pleasantly funny game that takes into account its pop culture leanings, he said it was “winningly ironic” and “warmly funny and offbeat, like a detective comedy that isn't trashy.”
There's also the “reverse murder mystery” Overboard!, from the notable studio Inkle. This one, whose writer Andy Kelly called a “deliciously wicked twist” on the detective genre, in which you'll help protagonist Veronica get away with murdering her husband.
