This fractal-inspired Raspberry Pi 5 case has to be one of our all-time favorites.

There seems to be a long list of Raspberry Pi projects going on at all times and the latest to catch our eye is this Swap Pi case for the Raspberry Pi 5. Perhaps the best (and most stylish) case for a RasPi we'll see for a long time.

We have to admit that we are fans of Fractal Design, particularly their range of PC cases, and nothing has stood out more recently than their range of wooden front panel designsThey stand out from the RGB crowd, which is why we were drawn to this one as well. Raspberry Pi Case which follows suit. Swap Pi is designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5 and supports a few ports including USB-C PW and full HDMI.

How the Swap Pi case for Raspberry Pi 5 was born

This project is courtesy of Rex Tang on Hackster.io – a community website for those who love to create and share their hardware-based projects. The Swap Pi enclosure is originally based on the The concept of 'North Pi' which Fractal Design created for Computex 2024 last month. So it hasn't taken long for someone to get their hands on it. However, while Rex notes that he is inspired by the concept, “the structure is completely different.”

The video below is from Rex's YouTube Channel It gives you a quick look at the construction process from start to finish, with a nice demonstration of the final project, all in less than 25 seconds.

The case’s design allows for easy access to the rear ports, using a DeskPi KL-P24 Micro HDMI to HDMI expansion board to route the USB and micro HDMI ports to the rear of the case. On top of that, there’s room for an NVMe expansion, useful if you’re after fast SSD storage – use the NVPI5-2280B board.

There is also room for a RGB PWM Fan 4010 PIwhich is a 4-wire fan. It can even be controlled by a Raspberry Pi GPIO, allowing you to sync the fan speed with CPU temperatures accordingly and modify the RGB color. The removable design (pictured below) allows for easy access, making it a very handy case for the Pi. So it's not all just looks, and it's an alternative to something like the Pyromancer 5It's not that we expect the Swap Pi to go into mass production.

In total, the construction consists of 7 parts:

  • Main part of the Swap Pi case (3d print)
  • Front of the Swap Pi case (3d print)
  • Swapping the back of the Pi case (3d print)
  • DeskPi KL-P24 Micro HDMI to HDMI Adapter Board
  • Raspberry Pi 5
  • NVMe NVPI5-2280B Motherboard
  • FAN 4010
