Over the past four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve been hard at work to continually evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players have come to expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware yet.
We built PS5 Pro with the most committed gamers and creators in mind, as many have asked for a console that runs higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60 FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*
- Improved GPU:With PS5 Pro, we're upgrading to a GPU which has 67% more compute units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this allows for up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making for a much smoother experience.
- Advanced Ray Tracing:We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that delivers more dynamic light reflection and refraction. This allows rays to be projected at two, and sometimes three, times the speed of the current PS5 console.
- AI-powered scaling:We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-powered upscaling that uses machine learning-based technology to deliver super-sharp picture clarity while adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
The PS5 Pro offers gamers incredible graphics at high frame rates. In the video presentation below, you can hear Mark Cerny, Lead Architect of the PS5 Pro, talk about the key innovations of the PS5 Pro. This presentation offers a deep dive into the key performance features that make the PS5 Pro truly special.
Other improvements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be applied to over 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games that are playable on PS5 Pro. This feature can stabilise or improve performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Picture Quality for PS4 Games is also available to upscale resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories that support this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.
It’s exciting to see how game creators have embraced the latest PS5 Pro technology, and several games will be receiving patches with free software updates for players to take advantage of PS5 Pro features. These games can be identified by a PS5 Pro Enhanced tag within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbusters from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.
We’re keeping the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 product family. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Gamers can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive or swap out console covers when they become available.
The PS5 Pro fits seamlessly into the PS5 family of products and is compatible with currently available PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as on the PS5.
The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed with every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available PS5 disc drive separately.
The PS5 Pro will be released on November 7, 2024, and will be available from participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.
Our journey with PS5 wouldn’t be possible without the millions of gamers who have supported us over the years and shared their love of gaming with us. Whichever console option gamers choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we want to offer everyone the best gaming experience that suits their needs.
