AMD Computex 2024: A quick summary!
For those who missed it, here's a brief summary of the new AMD products and technologies that Dr. Lisa Su announced at Computex 2024.
AMD Ryzen 9000 Series Desktop Processors
Dr. Lisa Su introduced the AMD Ryzen 9000 series (codenamed Granite Ridge) of desktop processors, scheduled to launch in July 2024. These processors are built around the Zen 5 microarchitecture, which AMD claims will offer increased average performance of 16% compared to the previous model. Zen 4 microarchitecture.
Here is the first series of AMD Ryzen 9000 processors announced at Computex 2024:
- Ryzen 9 9950X: 16C/32T, up to 5.7GHz max boost, 80MB L2+L3 cache, 170W TDP
- Ryzen 9 9900X: 12C/24T, up to 5.6GHz max boost, 76MB L2+L3 cache, 120W TDP
- Ryzen 7 9700X: 8C/16T, up to 5.5GHz max boost, 40MB L2+L3 cache, 65W TDP
- Ryzen 5 9600X: 6C/12T, up to 5.4GHz max boost, 38MB L2+L3 cache, 65W TDP
AMD Ryzen AI 3rd Generation 300 Series Laptops
Microsoft, HP, Lenovo and ASUS presented their laptops based on the third generation AMD Ryzen AI 300 series mobile processors.
Ryzen AI is a combination of a dedicated AI engine, an AMD Radeon graphics engine, and Ryzen processor cores that enable AI capabilities.
AMD EPYC 5th Generation Server Processors
Dr. Lisa Su also previewed AMD's fifth-generation EPYC server processors (codenamed Turin), which are on track to launch in the second half of 2024. Like AMD's new desktop processors, The Ryzen 9000 series, fifth-generation EPYC processors are built around the core Zen 5 microarchitecture.
AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2
The new AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 brings together FPGA programmable logic for real-time preprocessing, next-generation AI engines powered by XDNA technology for efficient AI inference, and integrated CPUs for post-processing to deliver the highest-performance single chip . Adaptive solution for cutting-edge AI.
AMD Versal AI Edge Gen 2 devices are now available for early access with more than 30 key partners currently in development.
AMD Instinct MI325X Throttle
The AMD Instinct MI325X accelerator will be available in Q4 2024 and will offer 288 GB of ultra-fast HBM3E memory.
AMD Instinct MI350 Series
The AMD Instinct MI350 series is expected to debut in 2025, based on the next-generation AMD CDNA 4 architecture. AMD expects it to deliver up to 35x better inference performance compared to the AMD Instinct MI300 series, which is based on the current CDNA 3 architecture.
