'Cat and dog lovers rejoice!': Fallout 76 is finally adding camping pets 'later this year'

There was a small segment for Fallout 76 During the Xbox Live Stream at Tokyo Game Showin which creative director Jon Rush took a second to celebrate all the wonderful camps made into the game so far and ended by announcing a new Fallout 76 feature coming later this year.

“We wanted to give a big shout out to our player base here,” Rush says. “The Japanese Fallout 76 community has been one of the most talented and dedicated. From playtime to levels to camp building, it’s been an absolute pleasure to watch and play with you.” After this, we watched a short montage of some of Bethesda’s favorite camps, which are all significantly better than mine. But Bethesda’s time at the presentation wasn’t just spent looking at pretty pictures – there was an update at the end, too.

“We’d like to confirm some exciting news,” Rush continues. “Cat and dog lovers rejoice! We’re excited to share that Camp Pets are finally coming to Fallout 76 later this year. These new furry friends will reside at your campsites and you’ll be able to interact with them in a variety of ways.” That’s all the information Rush shared during the presentation, but he promised more news to come in the coming months.

This is great news for anyone who, like me, has a habit of collecting a bunch of cats at any given opportunity. But unfortunately, unlike all of my Minecraft bases, which are packed with cats, we're probably only allowed to have one animal at a time, thanks to the restrictions of the Animal Friend perk card.

The Animal Friend perk allows you to tame one animal at a time, but these animals could be dogs, cats, mole rats, or even a radioactive toad if you have a high enough rank. At one point, people at the highest rank could even tame deathclaws or mega sloths, but this was removed in Patch 9 since these beasts are no longer classified as animals (rightly so).

However, there might still be the possibility of taming various animals and thus maintaining an army of cats at your base. Rush said there will be more information about this new feature in the coming months, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
