Easy Push and Pull Puppets

These simple ones push and pull puppets They are great science art and work well as a STEM challenge for a push and pull or theme of forces.

The idea is that the puppet's arms move up and down as the center straws are pushed up and down.

Pushes and pulls are examples of forces. Pushing and pulling can make objects move, stop them, speed them up, slow them down, or change their shape.

The puppets are easy to make, but young children may need help making the holes in the glass and then passing the straws through the holes.

You will need to

Paper cup

Three paper straws

Scotch tape

Paper

Decorations template – optional

Instructions

Glue the three straws in a row about a third of the way up.

Carefully make a hole in the middle of the bottom of the cup. The straw must be able to fit through the hole.

Drill two more holes, one on each side of the cup, about a quarter from the bottom.

Fold the straws over the edge about halfway.

Carefully push the straws up through the glass, passing them through the holes.

Now you have a basic. push and pull puppet toy. Add a head to the top straw and hands to both arms! Use my template or draw your own!

Gently pull and push the straws to make the puppet's arms and head move up and down.
