How to get the most out of Google's Find My Device network for Android – Computerworld

Losing your phone is one of the most stressful situations in modern life. We’ve all been there: you pat your pocket, quickly scan every surface you see, and suddenly your heart sinks as you realize that your Android device and all of its contents (including, possibly, all sorts of confidential business-related material) are no longer under your control.

There is certainly no situation where losing your phone is a good thing (I know that's an understatement of the century). But with the advancements and Recently updated Phone finding is now built into Android at the operating system level, so finding and then managing a lost device is easier than ever. And despite what some security services may try to convince you, you don't need any third-party software to do it.

Android's native Find My Device system can accurately locate any Android device: Phone, tablet, watch, etc. It also works with a new series of special AirTag-like trackers that can be attached to keys, briefcases, and other important items. Plus, it will show you the exact location of your device on an interactive map and, when relevant, give you tools to remotely ring it, lock it, or completely wipe it and send all its data to the digital afterlife.
