It would take a lot to get OG Fallout leader Tim Cain to return to the series: “The first question out of my mouth is 'What's new about this?'”

With Fallout back on everyone's minds after the success of the new show, the original game's lead developer, Tim Cain, has been weighing in on different aspects of the series about his Youtube channel. Although Fallout clearly still means a lot to him, Cain He didn't seem willing to return to the series. by responding to frequent queries from its viewers.

“There are a lot of different questions that are being asked,” Cain said. “Would I want to remake Fallout as a 3D game? Are you asking me if I would like to do a Fallout spin-off like Fallout: New Vegas? Do I want to do Fallout 5?” Whatever he thinks of those respective possibilities, Cain was clear that he’s not concerned about authority, creative freedom, or even salary — within reason, of course. Cain explained that his primary motivation, especially now that he’s semi-retired, is his own interest in a project.

“The 'TLDW' is: Every RPG I've ever done offered me something new and different that made me interested in doing it,” Cain said. “It was the game itself that offered me something interesting that made me say 'Oh, I want to do that, I've never done that.'”

While there are broad strokes between their projects, it's certainly an eclectic spread: Fallout, The Temple of Elemental Evil, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and The Outer Worlds, to name a few. In particular, the only direct sequel Cain worked on in that left pre-production, Fallout 2, was not a project he would have wanted to pursue, and abandoned development before it was completed.

“If someone came to me and said, 'Do you want to make a Fallout game?', my response would be, 'Well, what's new?'” Cain said of the hypothesis. “I didn't even want to make Fallout 2, why would I want to make a new Fallout?”

While money is certainly a goal for Cain, he explained that the novelty or excitement of a project is what gets him through the door, whether it's Fallout or not: “The first question out of my mouth is 'What's in it? Again in the?' ”

But while it may be difficult to impress one of the guys who invented Fallout with a new idea for Fallout, it seems Cain is booking some new game projects that he's excited about; he's mentioned in the past that he got over that aversion to sequels to continue working on The Outer Worlds 2.
