Pallas, the origin of the Free Navy, in the television series “The Expanse”

Pallas, located in the main asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, is the third largest asteroid in the Solar System (~512 km in diameter). It has 22% of the mass of Ceres, the largest asteroid in the Solar System, and a gravity of 0.021 g (2.1% of the force of Earth's gravity). With an orbital inclination of 34.8°, Pallas's orbit is unusually highly inclined with respect to the plane of the asteroid belt, making Pallas more difficult for spacecraft to reach.

In the universe of The expansion Television series (a science fiction political drama set in the mid-24th century, when humans colonized the entire solar system) Pallas features one of the oldest stations, Palas Stationon the outer planets, refining stations for mining operations in the Asteroid Belt and the Belt's largest fuel refinery.

In The expansion The television series Pallas has a population of between 9,000 and 13,000, but it is also known for its extremist dissident Belter groups among their colonies. One of these dissident groups ends up forming the nucleus of the Free Navy. Pallas is the birthplace of Marco Inaros, Naomi Nagata and her son Filip.

At the end of the show's fifth season, acting United Nations Secretary-General David Paster orders an uncoordinated missile strike against the Palas Stationdestroying one of their habitation rings and killing thousands of Belters.
