Ryzen 3000 CPUs to receive Sinkclose vulnerability patch today, according to AMD security bulletin

Recently, a major security issue was found in several generations of Ryzen processors. This means that all CPUs, including Zen 1, Zen 2, Zen 3, and Zen 4, were at risk of being tampered with, which could have meant a worldwide catastrophe. Fortunately, AMD was quick to notice the problem. Sinkclose Vulnerabilityand there was a quick fix to mitigate it: you just needed to update your BIOS. That said, for everyday users, it was a bit technical, as specific knowledge is needed to do so.

On top of that, what was more worrying was that Ryzen 3000 or “Matisse” CPUs were apparently not on the supported list, which raised a lot of questions. However, AMD has since updated its compatibility list. SMM Lock Override Bulletinand the patch for Ryzen 3000 processors should be available now, on August 20th.

That said, we don't know what microcode update this patch will feature as AMD hasn't revealed it yet, but according to the bulletin's “Revisions”, the patch is now live as it has a target date of “2024-08-20.”
