There are no more Intel factories in Europe… for now

Intel has been planning to set up in Germany for some time, specifically in Magdeburg. However, this is a risky project that has gone through many ups and downs. The most recent was the increase in energy costs, which threatened the project, although it was announced that it would be highly subsidized by the German government. Now the news is: the project has been suspended!

Intel: A factory in Germany is not imminent

Intel factory in Germany

As you know, the company is going through a difficult time, so much so that its latest financial results were… negativeWe're not going to go through the whole story again, but there have been layoffs, frozen investments, and most recently, news that the US government has announced it will delay payment of Ships & Science Act grants until the company can get back on its feet.

This time we learn that the installation in Germany has been suspended. The Blues are speaking out, saying that the time has come to take their time, that the accelerated investment is over. For the time being, the company will invest in a more “flexible and efficient” way. In other words, it is dead for now.

On the other hand, when you lose money, you stop the bleeding, which is what the company is doing. In addition, to clean up the company's accounts, the foundry section will become an independent subsidiary. Remember that this sector is dedicated to the production of chips for external customers… A bit like TSMC does. However, after massive investments, this sector is in deficit.

In short, given the many twists and turns that have surrounded this factory in Germany, it is doubtful that it will ever see the light of day.
