5 easy rockets for kids to make

Rockets make a Great scientific project or space-themed STEM challenge as they are fairly easy to make, can be customized however you like, and can be reused over and over again. These easy rockets that kids can make are also fun craft projects and can be turned into a science investigation, too!

My personal favorite rocket is ours Mini bottle rocket It sets up quickly and doesn't fly too hard, but it's still very impressive to look at!

If you love space science, Don't forget to check out my book This is rocket scienceContaining SEVENTY space-themed science ideas for kids!

This is a space science book and sample experiments from the book. It includes a clay model of the Earth, a rocket mouse, a storm in a jar, and a density jar.

This milk jug rocket is sometimes called Rocket MouseIt requires little preparation, is mess-free and is fun for little ones.

A rocket mouse is also cool. First scientific activity to learn about forces.!

Air rocket launcher

A Aerial rocket launcher It's easy to make. All you need is a two-liter plastic bottle, some tape, and a small piece of PVC pipe.

The rocket part is made of paper wrapped around the tube, so it fits perfectly.

Single Stomp Rocket

Stomping on rockets These are always fun and this one is super easy to make! Put the rocket on the end and stomp on the bottle.

Mini bottle rocket

My mini bottle rockets are my absolute favorite. Homemade rocketsYou will need a 500ml bottle, straws or candy sticks, a cork and some rocket fuel. This can be Alka Seltzer and water, an effervescent vitamin tablet or even baking soda and vinegar.

Kids can experiment to find the best combination of baking soda and vinegar or an effervescent tablet and water to make their rocket fly!

This can be turned into an investigation by adding extra weight to the side of the rocket to see how that affects the distance it flies upward.

Straw rockets

Straw rockets are also dirt-free.easy to make and can be customized in many different ways.

The paper cutout of a rocket is attached to a straw that is shorter and wider than the one the experimenter is blowing through. The wider straw is sealed at the top, so that when air from the main straw hits it, the rocket flies!

Straw rockets: made with two straws and a paper drawing of a rocket.

An alternative to this design is to use plastic. Bottle rocket launcher to push air through the straw.

Film canister rockets: adult supervision required

This is another very easy rocket to make. You can decorate it film canister or leave it as is. They are ready to be released immediately and can be reused immediately as long as you can find both pieces of the film canister from the previous release.

Rockets shaped like film canisters It can be set up as a scientific investigation by adding extra weight to a rocket. Remember to keep all other conditions the same (amount of water and effervescent vitamin tablet).

Water-powered bottle rocket: Adult supervision required

TO Water-powered bottle rocket It needs a little more preparation and sprouts quickly and high, so you'll need some adult help and a lot of empty space.

This type of rocket is perfect for a classroom demonstration or a large rocket science competition if kids design and build their rockets in teams and then an adult launches each one.
