How to enable Apple Intelligence on your iPhone

Apple is finally releasing some of the Apple Intelligence features it announced in Your Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

However, the release is currently restricted to iOS 18.1 Developer Beta ReleasesSo if you don't want to deal with buggy software in its early stages, you may want to wait until Apple Intelligence's public beta or stable release later this year.

If you're in the developer beta, you'll only be able to use Apple Intelligence features if your language is set to US English and your region is set to US. This doesn't affect your regions or your App Store purchases.

Here's how you can get started with Apple Intelligence features:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go to the Apple Intelligence and Siri menu.
  • Tap “Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist.”

Once your waitlist position is approved, you will receive a notification. It may take some time for the system to download all the models and data needed to run Apple Intelligence. You can disable the Apple Intelligence feature from the menu at any time.

Apple's artificial intelligence suite The features work through a combination of requests on the device and from Apple's private cloud. Apple said the waitlist is to ensure sufficient service capacity.

At the moment, Apple Intelligence is only supported with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs powered by M1 chips.

Available functions

  • New Siri: Siri powered by Apple intelligence It has a new animation. Plus, you can always double-tap the bottom bar to text Siri when you're in a noisy place or in a meeting. Siri can also handle stumbling blocks of speech, so when you say, “Hey Siri, set a timer for 10 minutes — no, 15 minutes,” it'll set a timer for 15 minutes.
  • Questions on how to do it: You can also ask Siri for instructions related to Apple's system, such as “How do I make a screen recording?”
  • Writing tools: You can now reformat any text across the system. You can use “Proofread” to check for spelling or grammatical errors and “Rewrite” to rewrite selected text without changing the meaning too much. You can also choose to change the tone of the text using three options: “Friendly,” “Professional,” or “Concise.” You can summarize the text to generate a list, bullet points, or a table.
  • Mail application: The Mail app now displays email summaries in a single line without needing to open them. Apple Intelligence also displays important emails at the top of your inbox. Plus, you can use AI-generated Smart Replies to quickly respond to emails.
  • Photos: You can now search for photos using natural language queries. Additionally, you can also create memories using prompts.
  • Notification summaries: Apple Intelligence also displays summaries of some mail and message notifications.
  • Call Transcripts: Apple Intelligence now lets you record calls with the tap of a button. Recordings are stored in a new folder, “Call Recordings,” in the Notes app.
  • Audio Compatibility with App Notes: You can also record and transcribe audio directly in the Notes app. Apple's AI suite will also automatically generate a summary.

Apple Intelligence It does not yet have features such as the ability to remove unwanted objects in photos, Emojispicture playground, and ChatGPT InteractionsThere is no fixed timeline for when we will be able to test these features.
