However, we could also see a long-awaited revamp of Google's smart home offerings at the event. A recent leak from Arsène Lupine in X (formerly Twitter) reveals a lot of information about a Nest smart thermostat (fourth generation). It would be the most expensive Nest thermostat ever, with a starting price of $279, according to rumors.
The leak seems credible, as it includes what appear to be official marketing and product images. It even includes a breakdown of how the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) compares to the existing Nest Thermostat. While both devices can be controlled remotely using the Google Home app, that’s where the differences end.
The highlight of this rumored refresh is a redesign that will turn the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) into a more premium product. There’s a new borderless, high-resolution display that looks stunning in the leaked images. In fact, it looks like a scaled-up Pixel Watch, and that’s no bad thing. The thermostat also features a stainless steel chassis, making it more attractive than the design of the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) and the standard Nest Thermostat.
There are plenty of new software features, too. The Nest Smart Thermostat (4th generation) will offer a customizable home screen, so you can tweak the look of your digital display to your liking. The graphic mentions a new feature called Dynamic Farsight that requires the Google Home app and is presumably an iteration of the current Farsight feature, which lets you see information at a glance.
Plus, energy savings is once again a key selling point of the Nest Smart Thermostat (4th Gen). Product materials make reference to Adaptive Eco mode and Smart Schedules, which will help reduce energy usage. There’s also a System Status Monitor that could help you determine if there’s a problem with your heating or cooling systems. It will also work with Matter, as the unified standard for smart homes continues to grow and be adopted by manufacturers.

Overall, if you're talking about the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen), it looks like a pretty attractive update. The redesign is in line with modern design trends and looks great, while also packing new features. The only drawback may be the $279 starting price, but the current Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) sells for $250 at full price.
It’s only a $30 increase over the existing model, but I’ll be interested to see what deals and discounts will be available for the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen). You can get a Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) for $170 right now, which is competitive. But it’s important to remember that the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) is almost a decade old now. I suspect people who are invested in the Nest ecosystem will be happy to see a new Nest Learning Thermostat and won’t be hung up on the price.

This leak only covers the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen), but I’m hoping it’s a sneak peek at what could be coming to the Made by Google event next month. The entire Nest line has been neglected over the past few years, and it’s time to change that. Sure, the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen), which first launched in 2015, is one of the oldest products in the line, but it’s not the only one showing its age.
In particular, I would like to see Google update the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max. The Nest Hub (2nd generation) was released in 2021 and the Nest Hub Max was released in 2019. You might think that the Pixel Tablet replaces both devices, but it is certainly not the case. It is too expensive fair It works as a smart display – you have to take advantage of its tablet functionality for it to be worth it. Plus, it's a lot harder to decorate your home with the Pixel Tablet than with the Nest Hub for a reasonable price.
Things don't get any better when you look at the Google Home and Google Home Mini. They were released in 2016 and 2017, respectively. While they're cheap, that doesn't make up for their outdated hardware and feature set. Audio Nest It's also a few years old. Across the Nest line, there are more products in dire need of an update than not.
So, let's hope that the Made by Google event brings with it a long-awaited refresh of the entire Nest line. If new products are announced, Google could become competitive again in the smart home space.
