Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller – PlayStation.Blog

Hello everyone! It's a pleasure to be back here to make another Astro Bot related reveal.

First look: Astro Bot limited edition DualSense wireless controller

If you've been following Astro news lately, then you'll know that Team Asobi has been hard at work on a brand new game that's coming out on September 6th. The game features over 50 planets, new power-ups, plenty of enemies, secrets, and PlayStation-inspired characters to collect. And it also features a DualSense wireless controller turned into a living character that helps Astro on his quest.

Today, it is our immense pleasure to announce that you can embark on Astro’s next super-sized adventure together with the awesome new DualSense wireless controller: Astro Bot Limited Edition.

We know many of you were expecting this after watching the gameplay trailer. So, we quickly asked our lovely robots to design this beauty and voila! No, no, I'm just kidding; it had been in development for some time, carefully crafted by the amazing teams at SIE. And what a splendid job they did!

The controller design features Astro's signature blue detailing on the handles and buttons, carved sci-fi lines, and the signature pair of funny eyes on the touchpad. It's a true work of art, and we at Team Asobi couldn't be happier with the end result.

With this dynamic addition to your setup, a super-sized space adventure awaits…

Beginning Friday, August 9 at 7am (Pacific Time) in the US and 10am (local time) in the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal, players will be able to pre-order the DualSense Wireless Controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition via direct.playstation.com, as well as select retailers. Pre-orders will also be available through select retailers in other global markets on the same day. The DualSense Wireless Controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities for $79.99/ €79.99/ £69.99/ ¥11,980 and will launch on September 6, the same day as Astro Bot’s launch.

I'll take this opportunity to recap some of the cool things this new Astro Bot game does with the DualSense wireless controller.

First off, as many of you have come to expect from an Astro game, you can feel the surfaces Astro runs and slides on, from grass, sand, and metal to softer textures and water. That was already the case with Astro's Playroom, but we've increased the amount of textures that can be felt through the controller.

Next, we doubled down on adaptive triggers combined with haptic feedback, tying them closely to Astro’s new powers. For example, when using Barkster, the bulldog thruster, you can feel the thruster tapping against your finger in sync with the animation, providing a very dynamic and immersive sensation. Each new power-up has been given the same special treatment, so you’ll be able to experience various expressions through your fingers.

Lastly, given the amount of enemies and boss battles we added to this new adventure, it was important to work on combat and impacts combining all of the above. Whether it's stretching, punching, or hitting hard surfaces, there are many new types of impacts to be experienced in Astro Bot.

And of course, we couldn't end this post without mentioning the Dual Speeder, one of Astro's most recurrent gadgets, which allows him to fly to various planets. The Dual Speeder makes full use of motion control, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback. Here's a snippet of very early concept art and what it looks like in the final game.

That’s all from us! We’ll be back soon with more news on Astro Bot. Until then, let us know in the comments what you think of this fantastic DualSense wireless controller: Astro Bot Limited Edition.

Astro Bot is coming to PS5 on September 6. We look forward to seeing you all joining Astro on his first big adventure.
