Ghost of Tsushima's PSN login requirement will prevent you from playing multiplayer on Steam Deck

We are only a couple of days away from Ghost of Tsushima PC Release Date, as the former PlayStation exclusive prepares to release its Director's Cut, including its expansion and multiplayer DLC, on Steam. Having recently clarified the question of whether you will need to log in with a PSN account after The Helldivers 2 debacle – Yes, if you want to play co-op – developers Nixxes and Sucker Punch have now revealed that the login requirement will mean multiplayer will not work on the Steam Deck.

the developers confirmed last week that we will not need to create or log in with a PlayStation Network account to play Ghost of Tsushima's single-player campaign or the Iki Island expansion, apparently seeking to quell the risk of a backlash similar to what Arrowhead suffered after announcing a mandatory account . log in to PSN to helldivers 2 (what was it then fell – and then it became an ironic layer – because the sheer storm of complaints).

However, login will be required for the Legends co-op mode, which was originally released as free DLC for the PlayStation 4 game: and therein lies the rub. While Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will technically be compatible with the Steam Deck, at least if you want to play the main game in bed, on the bus, or in the bathroom, its developers confirmed that it will be listed as “Not Supported.” in steam because multiplayer cannot work as a result of PSN integration.

“You may notice that Steam marks the game as 'Not Supported' for the Steam Deck. “This is due to Legends' cooperative multiplayer mode which requires Windows to access the built-in PlayStation Network features,” Nixxes and Sucker Punch explained in a blog post announcing the preload of the game live.

It's hard to imagine that many people would consider a portable handheld to really be the best way to play online multiplayer, but it's still frustrating to see the restriction, especially since the much-lamented PSN login requirement seems to be the main culprit. .

This is also despite one of the possibly positive features of the PSN connection – cross-play between PlayStation and PC users – only being available in 'beta' form at launch, with the developers saying it will be functional but will not automatically match . users on different platforms to start. You'll have to invite your friends to get the most out of it, which is probably the best way to play Legends anyway, but it's not ideal if you're flying solo and looking to get into a game as quickly as possible.

It's worth mentioning that this all follows the news that the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima It will not be sold on Steam in almost 180 countries – including Japan, the same country in which the game takes place – due to PSN login requirement for Legends. (Helldivers 2 was also removed from sale in dozens of countries, including those where you can't even create PSN accounts.)

You know, I'm really starting to wonder if forcing a separate login for PlayStation Network on top of these games is all it's cracked up to be.
