This composition captures Mercury's rapid movement across the night sky, capturing the planet closest to the Sun over Bursa, Turkey, at dawn from September 14 to October 6, 2023. (Click to view image in full resolution and clearer view.) Mercury's motion is from left to right, becoming higher in the sky and brighter as its phase increases. It peaked in the sky on September 23, 2023, at greater elongation. The photographer used a Canon DSLR to take ½ second exposures at ISO 400 through a 50mm f/3.2 lens.
