While rumors about the next NVIDIA RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are appearing one by one, the RTX 4090 has not been discontinued yet and is still available today. Think of the Suprim Fuzion as a compact version of the Suprim Liquid MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid It features an all-in-one cooling solution, but its 280mm radiator is separate from the graphics card.
While water cooling is good for GPUs because they get very hot, having a radiator attached to a graphics card with tubes sticking out can be a pain. It's not the cleanest approach and if not handled carefully could easily damage the graphics card part or radiator.
Suprim Fuzion offers a cleaner and “better” solution to this dilemma. Instead of sticking out, the radiator is integrated and hidden under the cooler cover. The thick heatsink is replaced by the radiator, and the GPU water block, including the pump and tubes, is sandwiched between the graphics card PCB and the cooler shroud.
This looks cleaner, more manageable and easier to work with. But since the radiator is integrated inside the cooler shroud, the graphics card itself is thick and takes up about 4.5 PCI slots.
The design of the MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Fuzion is very interesting, but it is not the first one I have seen. Last year, Acer revealed its Predator RTX 4090 graphics card with a hybrid cooler design similar to the Suprim Fuzion.
Comparing the Predator RTX 4090 hybrid cooling solution with MSI's Sumprim Fuzion shows that they are not the same. It looks different, especially the copper plate that covers the GPU, VRAM and VRM. The Predator RTX 4090 ran loudly and the cooling solution was disappointing. According to KitGuru's testing, it didn't work well.
I expect MSI's implementation and hybrid design to be much better than Acer's. We'll know more once MSI unveils it at Computex 2024. There's no word yet on its pricing and availability, and I doubt MSI will make many RTX 4090 Suprim Fuzions for sale.
If this design is a success, I hope to see Suprim Fuzion used in NVIDIA's next-generation RTX 50 series GPUs. We may see an MSI RTX 5090 Suprim Fuzion or RTX 5080 Suprim Fuzion in the coming months.
