COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – June 18, 2024 – Space Foundationa nonprofit organization founded in 1983, providing education, collaboration and information for the global space ecosystem, announced today that it is accepting applications for its International Teaching Liaison Program from now until Monday, September 30, 2024.
Launched in 2004, the Space Foundation's International Teacher Liaison program provides select educators around the world with skills, strategies and capabilities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) to improve their classroom and student engagement while nurturing the minds of the world of tomorrow. -changing adults.
Teacher Liaisons is a community of more than 375 educators in 25 countries and 40 states working to inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators. These educators are chosen through an intensive application and evaluation process. Educators submit a questionnaire, a spatial lesson plan, and a letter of recommendation from a supervisor. Upon selection, the new Teacher Liaisons class is named “Flight” to denote the teachers' mission as world-class spatial and STEAM educators.
Commenting on the International Teacher Liaison program, Space Foundation Senior Vice President Dr. John West said, “Our Teacher Liaison program provides hundreds of educators around the world with the essential knowledge and resources to guide the next generation toward careers in STEAM. “These distinguished educators serve as catalysts to inspire students, and we welcome all teachers eager to make a significant impact to apply for this program.”
The program is open to public, private, and homeschool teachers, as well as school administrators, principals, specialists, curriculum and instructional developers, and others who teach educational programs from kindergarten to college students. Teachers chosen for the program will receive the following:
- Curricular resources and professional development courses.
- Networking opportunities with top educators and space industry experts
- Community of encouraging educators around the world.
- Practical and inspiring projects for the classroom.
- Opportunities to design learning activities in a collaborative environment.
New Teacher Liaisons flight to be recognized at Space Foundation annual meeting Space Symposiumwhich will be held from April 7 to 10, 2025, in The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. In addition to recognition activities, teacher liaisons will participate in special programming at the Symposium including keynote speakers, networking opportunities, and breakout sessions.
“Being a teaching liaison has given me the opportunity to participate in fantastic professional development courses with other teachers who are excited to share STEAM learning with their students. I have received access to many locally available resources, which I can share with my students and their families to spark curiosity and interest in learning about space and technology,” said Kathleen Starkey, International Teacher Liaison.
