COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – June 26, 2024 – Space Foundationa nonprofit organization founded in 1983 that provides education, collaboration and information for the global space ecosystem, announced today that it will host a three-day teacher professional development workshop in Explora Science Center and Children's Museum July 9-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
With the support of a grant from the New Mexico Space Grant Consortiumthis training will guide educators through the fundamentals of astronomy to today’s cutting-edge discoveries. Lesson topics include the structure of the universe, the search for extraterrestrial life, black holes, and gravitational waves. Through hands-on activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of these topics that can be directly implemented in the classroom. Lessons cover a variety of next-generation science standards and Common Core standards from all grade levels and are designed to engage all students.
“We are excited to provide Albuquerque educators the opportunity to explore the wonders of the cosmos, deepen their understanding of astronomy, and gain the tools and knowledge to engage and inspire their students to pursue a STEAM career,” he said. Aimed at secondary educators, the program welcomes applicants from all educational backgrounds. Participants can anticipate a stipend of $100 per day and will earn a certificate of professional development hours upon completion. Space is limited and reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
