I used test tubes rather than larger containers as it meant I could easily experiment with different colours and allowed me to make lots of eruptions with just a small amount of baking soda and vinegar.

Spider slime

This stretchy slime has a great texture and is super easy to make. It can be squished, stretched and poured, and has a deliciously slimy and gooey texture!

What do you need:

chia seeds

PVA glue

Cornmeal

Water

How to make spider slime

Soak the chia seeds in water for a few hours.

When the chia seeds look thick and sticky, add a tablespoon of PVA glue and enough cornflour to make the mixture thick and sticky. For a drier dough, add more cornflour.

If you are worried about kids trying to eat the slime, you can skip the PVA glue as it doesn't stretch as well.

Magic potions that change color

Color changing potions Using red cabbage indicators is a great introduction to acids and alkalis. Kids can experiment to find out how many different colors they can create!

To prepare the red cabbage indicator, simply boil the red cabbage in water for about 5 minutes. The water in the red cabbage is the indicator and changes color depending on whether an acid or alkali is added.

I used vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda to create the colors below.
