Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is a simple game with no edge cases*

Greetings, wise and attractive Administrator.

I'm Jean-Luc, Community Manager of Desktop Dungeons: Rewindhere to give you some tips on getting your kingdom up and running and exploring dungeons.

The summary

Desktop Dungeons: Rewind is a turn-based roguelike where every move matters. Each dungeon has a boss (or several) that you must defeat to return to your realm with the loot. Resources are limited, but everything is a resource.

Exploring the darkness heals you and your enemies. The amount healed is based on the level of whatever you're healing. This is your primary way of regaining health and mana, so save it when possible!

The boss is the targetYou'll need a lot of firepower to defeat them, so be prepared to attack with as much force as possible through items, conversions, and leveling up as you fight them.

Your parentage and class will change the way you play. Halflings pump you full of potions, while goblins can boost your XP through the roof. Sorcerers cast spells, while berserkers defeat enemies who have nothing but the will to live.

Effective Dungeons

Okay, but how do we make the most of our resources? Good question! See how you do.

Fight against higher level enemies. In video games, you fight enemies to gain XP. Yes, knowledge. Fight stronger enemies? Get more XP. Yes! It's pretty simple. Enemies are limited, so it's important to make the most of them.

Convert items you no longer need. When you convert an item or glyph, it is destroyed, but you gain conversion points. When you reach a certain amount of conversion points, you gain a bonus based on your kinship.

Leveling up is important. Not only for the long-term goal of not being turned into paste by a particularly angry goat, but also for the full health and mana restoration it grants. Leveling up will also remove the poison and mana burn conditions.

Cultivation of the kingdom

Well, now that I have the bone of this ravenous and violent goblin, what am I going to do with it? Sell it for money! What am I going to do with the money? A statue!* Or upgrade buildings.

New classes! The core classes can be unlocked in any order, but I recommend choosing the Sorcerer as your first tier 2 class. The developers didn't know what they were doing with that class, it's so broken*.

New Kin! Once rescued from the dungeons, you can build a settlement for new kin to move into your kingdom and volunteer them to serve the kingdom. After all, you can't spell “kingdom” without “gdom.” Wait…

Preparations! After upgrading your guild, you can send your adventurers into dungeons with better equipment. You'll have to pay for it, but it's well worth it.

Small print

Well, that's all the general advice we have for you, Admin. You're a smart guy* and you should be ready to play now. Desktop Dungeons: RewindHere are some simple strategies to complement the killing of innocent monsters:

When in doubt, do the puzzles! These puzzles will explain some of the more advanced concepts of the game in a low stakes environment. What do these states mean? Strike order? Slowed down? Salami*?

Check your Codex! Accessed from the pause menu, the Codex contains all the information you need: details on relationships, classes, bosses, insignia, and everything else you might need.

Complete class challenges! Class challenges come with a touch of lore and are the perfect place to discover the strengths and weaknesses of a new class.

Stay tuned for quests! These quests will help you improve your kingdom. From killing soul-sucking vampires to increasing your bank capacity and completing tricky tasks for a cat, the rewards are plentiful.

Keep going! The beginning of this game is pretty easy, but the difficulty ramps up and will require you to master new systems (we haven't even talked about gods or popcorn in the article!). You will probably die and have to restart a dungeon at some point. This is the developer's fault, not yours. Remember, play the damn puzzles!

That's all I have to offer you today! Good luck in the world of Desktop Dungeons: Rewind!

Lots of love from me and the QCF design team.

*Please note that anything with an asterisk has the potential to be a lie*.
